Starting in 2025, Illinois will implement a new net metering law that will change how solar energy users are compensated. Under this new regulation, homeowners will only receive net metering credits on the supply portion of their utility bill, meaning the delivery charges will no longer be offset by solar production. While solar power will cover your energy usage during the day, any consumption during non-solar hours (such as at night) will pull from the grid unless you install a battery storage system.
